What are some tricks to make wearing high heeled shoes easier?

I have a function coming up and i have never worn high shoes in my life. However im determind to wear some and i have bought invisible gel pads to go on the shoe to make it easier. Are there any other tricks to making walking etc easier?

Try wearing the shoes around the house for a couple of days before your event.
